Canada’s Porter Airlines suspending all operations
Canadian carrier Porter Airlines is pressing the pause button until the global coronavirus crisis subsides.
The Toronto based airline will suspend all flight operations from Friday March 20.
The airline says it has set a tentative date of June 1 to restart operations.
"The speed of developments related to covid-19 is shocking. It is having an unprecedented impact around the globe on businesses, economies and people," CEO Michael Deluce said.
Porter has been forced to make ‘many temporary layoffs across all areas of the business’ which take effect when operations wind down on Friday.
"We are doing everything possible to support our team during this period and intend to welcome back all of our team members to Porter, as operations restart," a spokesperson said.
"Certain components of health benefits are being maintained and paid for by the company during the temporary layoff period."
Porter said it will maintain scheduled services until Friday and has waived change and cancellation fees for all flights.
