A cruise ship captain has been found dead in his stateroom during an Alaska voyage.

Captain Kenneth Adam, 47, was found unresponsive by crew members early Monday aboard the small ship Admiralty Dream.

CPR was administered but medical staff was unable to resuscitate him.

Investigators said there appears no sign of foul play and the body has been transported to Anchorage for an autopsy.

The vessel was headed to Pavlof Harbor for an excursion at the time and had to make detour to meet law enforcement officers and emergency services.

The 57 passengers were placed on a second ship to continue their cruise.

"He had a passion for his career and was a well-respected captain," said Jamey Cagle, vice president of Alaskan Dream Cruises’ parent company Allen Marine.

Originally from California, Adam had worked for the company for four years.
