A defective boiler has been blamed as the cause for a carbon monoxide leak in an upstate New York hotel.
The leak on early New Year’s Day sent five people to hospital for evaluation and prompted an evacuation.
National Grid officers found the faulty equipment at the Genesee Grande Hotel in Syracuse.
Officials said 19 rooms were occupied at the time and 25 people were evacuated.
The alert was raised after a carbon monoxide detector went off and a hotel manager called 911.
