Carnival announces order for two LNG mega cruise ships

Carnival Corp has announced an order of two new mega cruise ships for Carnival Cruise Line.
It has signed an agreement with for 5,200-passenger ships powered by liquefied natural gas, which will become the first in North America.
LNG is considered the cleanest burning fossil fuel in the industry and will be the most efficient and sustainable ships in the fleet, says Carnival CEO Arnold Donald.
Carnival is expected to take delivery in 2020 and 2022.
"This new ship order signifies an extraordinarily exciting future for Carnival Cruise Line and the opportunities that lie ahead to introduce a variety of magnificent new features," said Carnival president Christine Duffy.
The group now has a total of seven LNG run ships on order, after previously announcing two each for its AIDA Cruises and Costa Cruises brands.
The company also announced a new 180,000 gross ton LNG ship for UK based P&O Cruises.
Full details regarding itineraries, interior designs and ship amenities will be disclosed at a later date, the line said.
