Carnival Cruise Line positions ships ready for Florida port resumption
Carnival Cruise Line is in the process of lining up ships to resume cruises from Florida ports.
It will have the relevant ships in position to dock at PortMiami, Port Everglades, Port Canaveral and Port Tampa Bay once each port has the OK to reopen.
That could happen later on Tuesday afternoon or by Wednesday morning.
Carnival Vista and Carnival Glory hope to depart Miami on September 13 but the line urged passengers not to head to the port until these cruises are confirmed.
It will publish an update Tuesday morning.
"We are in close contact with port officials in Miami and have been informed that port assessment activities are partially complete. Additionally, we have learned that there are two sunken sailboats in the channel that must be recovered prior to the reopening of the port," Carnival said in a travel alert posted on its website.
The line will also update on the status of the Carnival Sensation which plans to depart for a three- day cruise to Nassau tomorrow.
The line said it is hopeful Carnival Conquest and Carnival Splendor will be permitted to dock at Port Everglades later today.
Meanwhile it says Carnival Magic will depart Port Canaveral on September 13 for a three-day cruise to Freeport and Nassau.
There were a total of seven cruises completely cancelled as a result of Hurricane Irma between September 7-11 and full refunds will be automatically processed.
Due to the inevitable air travel disruption as Florida airports begin to reopen, actually getting to embarkation points at the last minute will likely be a tough ask for many cruisers.
