Carnival places further Costa order
Carnival Cruises has ordered a second 3,000-passenger Concordia-class ship for its Costa Cruises fleet. The vessel will be delivered in 2007 and brings to 13 the number of new ships Carnival has on order over the next four years. The new Concordia ship will include several formal and casual dining rooms and four swimming pools, two of which will have retractable domes. Some 60 per cent of the 1,500 cabins will offer either an ocean view or balcony. “Continuing to invest in the Costa brand and introducing new vessels to its fleet is key to maintaining Costa’s pre-eminent position as Europe’s number one cruise line and to ensure Costa’s fleet is the most modern in the European market,” said Carnival chairman and chief executive Micky Arison. Carnival’s new 110,000-ton Carnival Freedom was due to be launched in spring 2007, but will now come into service in February 2007. The delivery date for Cunard’s Queen Victoria has been moved from July 2007 to December 2007. Meanwhile, Carnival has announced plans to transfer the Costa Tropicale to P&O Cruises Australia in October. The ship will be renamed Pacific Star and will join the Pacific Sun and Pacific Sky in the Australia and New Zealand market.
