Hong Kong carrier Cathay Pacific has finally agreed to ban all shipments of shark fin.
Subsidiary Dragonair will also follow suit.
Animal rights campaigners have lobbied the airline for years to stop transporting the delicacy.
Hong Kong is one of the world’s biggest markets for the commodity.
"On the issue of shark’s fin, with immediate effect we are happy to agree to ban the carriage," Cathay Pacific said in a statement.
The airline said it had not knowingly carried shark fin for the past year and turned down 15 shipment requests during this time.
Other airlines which had banned shark fin in recent years include Thai Airways and Philippine Airlines.
"It’s high time that Cathay took a stand. More Hong Kong businesses need to follow the lead," said Sharon Kwok, executive director of the Hong Kong based Aquameridien conservation foundation.
Environmental group WWF says 70 million sharks are killed every year and 457 tonnes of shark products were sent by air to Hong Kong in 2015, which is a 31% drop on the year before.
