The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently extended the list of destinations on its Zika virus travel alert to include the Cayman Islands, Antigua and Barbuda, and Turks and Caicos.
So far the CDC has issued travel warnings throughout the region to countries including Aruba, Barbados, Dominican Republic, Belize, Trinidad and Tobago, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The CDC said it is continuing to ‘work with other public health officials to monitor for ongoing Zika virus transmission.’
The CDC added the Cayman Islands to the list after a second locally transmitted case was reported by the Caymans’ Public Health Department.
The Caymans Department of Tourism issued a statement saying it will continue to be ‘proactive’ in promoting the destination.
"The DoT will adjust our already robust marketing plans as needed to ensure the destination is top of mind and converts travel bookings from our target audience," it said.
"Now more than ever it is important for residents and businesses to adhere to the prevention practices outlined by the Public Health Department and the Mosquito Research Control Unit."
