Cebu Pacific has become the International Air Transportation Association’s latest airline member.
IATA members now number more than 290 from 117 countries, which represents 82% of global air traffic.
There is now a growing number of budget carriers at the trade group, which is something IATA is encouraging.
"We warmly welcome Cebu Pacific, Asia’s oldest low-cost carrier, to the IATA family. Today about 20% of our members globally are low-cost carriers and we encourage more to join," said Conrad Clifford, IATA vice president for Asia Pacific.
Cebu Pacific said it is fully compliant with the IATA Operational Safety Audit.
"We are pleased to join IATA as we can gain access to expertise and learnings on best practices and innovations among global airlines, as well as help formulate policies on critical aviation issues," said Lance Y. Gokongwei, Cebu Pacific president and CEO.
