China Eastern Airlines to claim compensation from Boeing

Thursday, 11 April 20193 min read

China Eastern Airlines is the latest airline to claim compensation from plane maker Boeing.

The airline has 14 Boeing 737 Max aircraft in its fleet which have been grounded since shortly after the Ethiopian Airlines crash on March 10.

The carrier didn’t disclose how much it is seeking but did say plans to add 11 more Boeing Max jets are now being reconsidered.

CNN recently said Boeing could face compensation claims of more than US$2 billion from multiple airlines, and as the grounding drags on, that figure will inevitably rise.

Boeing acknowledged the MCAS anti-stall software used in the aircraft was a factor in both recent crashes and is still working on a software fix.

The plane maker is also temporarily cutting back production on the aircraft while the worldwide grounding is still in force.
