China flight bookings saw immediate surge
China flight bookings have surged, according to the latest data from ForwardKeys.
Chinese authorities announced that a negative PCR test is no longer required.
Domestic flight bookings immediately surged 56% on the previous week and continued to increase 69% the following week.
It reached 50% of 2019’s level in the final week of 2022.

However, ForwardKeys says a full recovery is still some time off.
Outbound flight bookings between through 3 January jumped 192% compared to same period last year.
Currently, the most popular destinations include Macau, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Bangkok.
ForwardKeys found 67% of bookings made up to 3 January were for travel during the Chinese New Year.
Olivier Ponti, VP Insights, ForwardKeys, saidd: “We will need to wait longer before we see a resurgence in Chinese tourists.”
This is partly as scheduled international flight capacity is only at 10% of 2019’s levels.
