China to restrict North Korea’s Air Koryo operations

North Korea’s state-owned airline, Air Koryo has been sanctioned by Chinese aviation authorities after an emergency landing last month.
Air Koryo’s operations In China will be limited until tangible improvements in pilot training and maintenance are made, authorities said.
The emergency landing occurred en route to Beijing on July 22 after smoke was detected in the passenger cabin, forcing a landing in Shenyang.
The Russian-built Tupolev 204 jet landed safely.
The smoke emitted from a burning audio speaker, the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) said.
It was classed as a ‘serious incident.’
The CAAC is taking ‘corresponding measures to limit operations’ of the airline without giving specifics.
The regulator wants to see improvements in crew training for in-flight emergencies, better maintenance practices and improved communication with air traffic control.
Air Koryo serves Beijing, Shanghai and Shenyang from Pyongyang and has been dubbed the ‘worst airline in the world.’
