China will restrict visitor numbers at the most popular section of the Great Wall of China to ease congestion.
To ensure it stays within a carrying capacity limit of 65,000 a day, online ticket sales will be introduced.
It applies to the Badaling section located in Beijing’s Yanqing district.
The 65,000 limit was set after extensive research into safety and visitor experience issues.
The section received nearly 10 million visitors last year, peaking at more than 80,000 a day during busy holidays.
The online booking system will roll out on June 1 and visitors can make a booking one week in advance using a valid ID or passport.
"This is not the first time that a scenic spot has adopted online ticketing, and it will reduce waiting time and provide a more comfortable experience for visitors," said Song Rui, director of the Tourism Research Center at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
