China’s largest ride hailing service Didi Kuaidi has agreed a strategic alliance with US counterpart Lyft.

Lyft users will have access to Didi Kuaidi’s fleet of drivers when in China while Chinese travelers in the US can book rides with Lyft.

"With this partnership, we’ll be working together to enable people to use their Lyft app when they travel to China and get a ride wherever they are going. The same will be true for Didi’s users who travel to the US," Lyft said in a blog post.

To support the alliance, Didi invested $100 milion in Lyft during a recent funding round.

"Lyft was founded with the mission of connecting people and their communities through improved transportation and we are extremely excited to partner with Didi Kuaidi," said Lyft president John Zimmer.

The partnership ‘enables us to join forces in rapidly advancing global innovation and growth,’ said Jean Liu, president of Didi Kuaidi, which is the dominant player in the Chinese market.

It has private car, carpooling, bus, chauffeur and taxi hailing services and serves more than 200 million users in China.
