Chinese tourists hurt in Taiwan tour bus crash

Monday, 6 February 20173 min read
A tour bus crash has injured 22 people, mostly Chinese tourists after hitting an overpass in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.
It had a height limit below that of the vehicle with blame being directed at the bus operator and driver for not being aware of this.
The injured included seven children but all are not considered serious.
Preliminary investigations found the driver was unfamiliar with the route and had been distracted by a tour guide at the time.
Tests showed he was not over the legal alcohol limit nor fatigued.
Apart from the driver and tour guide the occupants were a tour group from Zhejiang Province in China on a six-day trip.
This latest incident has increased safety fears within Chinese tourism after a high profile accident months ago.
China’s Taiwan Affairs Office voiced concerns and is seeking more details about the accident.
In July a bus carrying 24 tourists burst into flames after hitting a road guard rail near Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport.
Everyone onboard the bus including the driver died.
