CLIA forecasts steady cruise growth in 2015
Cruise Lines International Association has released its latest annual State of the Cruise Industry Report, predicting another strong year ahead in 2015.
It forecasts a record 23 million passengers will sail this year, up 4% on 2014 when 21.2 million took a cruise.
CLIA member cruise lines will launch 22 new ships in 2015 at a combined investment of over $4 billion the report says.
It highlights the global impact of the industry which it says contributes $117 billion and supports 900,000 jobs.
"From new ports around the globe to the investment by CLIA’s member cruise lines in new, innovative ships, it’s an exciting time for the cruise industry and cruise passengers," said Adam M. Goldstein, CLIA Chairman and President/COO of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd.
"This year will prove to be another step forward for the entire industry as our members continue to strive to make cruising the best overall vacation experience."
The industry continues to buck general travel industry trends with a significant majority of cruisers (70%) still relying on the travel agent community to plan and book cruise vacations.
