Club Med doesn’t let ash spoil its party

Thursday, 29 April 20103 min read

HOPE ISLAND – Club Med, which is celebrating its 60th birthday, wouldn’t let last week’s volcanic ash debacle in Europe spoil the party for in-house resort guests

As hotels in Europe took advantage of the situation by hoisting room rates for stranded flyers, Club Med moved to help guests in Asia Pacific whose Club Med holiday plans were disrupted by airport closures.

Guests who were already in a Club Med resort, and who had booked their entire package, including air transport, with Club Med, were offered the opportunity to stay on at their resort for no extra charge.

Those who had booked everything, but not their air transport, were offered a 50 percent-off rate to stay on.

Said a Club Med spokeswoman, “This was made possible because of crisis management measures carried out by Club Med.

“Since April 15, and in the hours following the closing of airports, an emergency committee consisting of 15 people representing the transport, sales, legal affairs, communication and human resources teams, and the country managements, was set up in La Villette (Club Med head office).

“This disruption has proven the worth of booking through a reputable company like Club Med.”
