Colin Powell is keynote speaker at Pow Wow
Former US Secretary of State Colin Powell is to speak at US trade show International Pow Wow in New York.
The Travel Industry Association of America event on May 3-7 is expected to attract more than 1,000 US travel organisations and 1,500 international buyers from 70 countries.
Powell is to speak at the event’s closing lunch about forging alliances that bring people and countries together and the travel industry’s role in this.
Betsy O’Rourke, TIA’s marketing senior vice president and general manager of International Pow Wow said: “We’re delighted to have someone of Colin Powell’s stature address the delegates of International Pow Wow. He’s one of most respected statesmen in US history and he fully understands the positive impact that travel and tourism can have on our US image in foreign countries.”
TIA is also running an “executive roundtable” on May 6 with top government officials to discuss facilitation issues facing inbound travellers, including visas, biometric passport requirements and the perceived hassle factor of visiting the US.
The roundtable will be comprised of senior officers from the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of State and the Department of Commerce. TIA’s president and CEO, Roger J. Dow, will moderate the panel.
