Collets Travel reaffirms the role of high street agents
Collets Travel boss has reaffirmed the role of the high street agent saying ‘the only way we can compete is on service’.
The travel firm, which this week bought retail agent Fortune Travel for an undisclosed sum, said upmarket clients were still looking for added value from arranging seats, visas, check-in to being there when a crisis hits.
Roy Collets, joint managing director of Colletts Travel, which has been trading for more than 30 years, said: "It’s a lot more than flight, hotel and car hire. Anyone can book that. Clients want someone on the end of the line."
Following the purchase of Fortune Travel, he said the agency will be integrated with Colletts Travel in the back office, enabling it to benefit from access to in-house offers and negotiated rates but there were no plans to re-brand the agency.
Colletts Travel currently has two agencies – in north London and Lancashire – as well as an upmarket direct-sell operation, Colletts Collection.
It is also one of a handful of UK travel companies to be a member of US luxury travel consortia, Virtuoso.
He added: "We’ve got the best of both worlds and wouldn’t discard any other opportunities that came up."
