Commune Hotels & Resorts and Destination Hotels are planning a merger to create what they say is the biggest independent boutique hotel operator in the US.
The combined business will have 92 hotels and generate about $2 billion in hotel management fees annually.
The companies see the union as complimentary to each business with very little overlap
Commune operates Joie de Vivre Hotels, Thompson Hotels, tommie and Alila Hotels & Resorts brands primarily in cities while Destination Hotels focuses on resort locations.
The newly company will be based in Denver, Colorado, with offices in San Francisco, New York, Singapore and Shanghai.
"Joining forces with Commune will allow us to position the combined company as the most sought after operator in this exciting segment of the industry. We will stay true to our guests and brands while driving enhanced performance for our owners as we continue to grow together," said Robert Lowe, Jr, CEO of Destination Hotels’ parent company.
"This is an exciting step forward for all of us as we bring together these two great and complementary hospitality companies."
Lowe will become co-chairman of the new entity alongside Commune chairman John Priztker.
