Company cuts cost of peak school holiday breaks

Monday, 29 March 20103 min read

Online travel agency Directline Holidays is offering savings of up to £75 on family holidays in the summer school holiday peak.
The offer is in addition to an existing deal of up to £100 off holidays booked online for departures between July 17 and August 29.
The promotion is valid when travelling with one or more children under the age of 18 years old and is also available for single parents.
A trip for two adults and one child for seven nights in Dalaman, Turkey on a B&B basis sold in July 2009 cost £1,385. The same holiday is now available departing on July 20 this year for £895, the company said.
The deal was created in response to last week’s figures by the Department for Children, Schools and Famililes which reported record truancy levels in the UK.
Directline Holidays CEO Maria Whiteman said: “The last year has been difficult for UK consumers and there are few people that remain unaffected by the recession.
“Brits are taking children out of schools during term time because travelling off peak currently offers considerable cost savings. Some tour operators do offer free child places but if you take in to account under occupancy charges the benefit is neglible.
“We are running this offer in a new drive to discourage absence from school by enabling families to take their summer break during the traditional school holiday period.
“Whilst Directline Holidays offers some of the most competitively priced holidays in the industry, supply and demand can lead to a price difference in periods of peak demand. This offer gives families an excellent opportunity to book early and keep costs down.”
