Compulsory travel insurance required for travelers to Jamaica

Sunday, 27 Oct, 2020 0

Jamaica will introduce a mandatory travel insurance plan for all visitors starting next month.

The ‘Jamaica Cares’ policy will costs $40 per person and will cover ‘case management, transport logistics, field rescue, evacuation and repatriation for medical emergencies including Covid-19.’

It launches 1 November.

Plans include global health coverage up to $100,000 and health coverage within Jamaica up to $50,000.

It incorporates emergency services from Global Rescue.

"Covid-19 has changed the world and the travel industry. The International Monetary Fund said the impact of Covid-19 on the Caribbean has been massive particularly for tourism-dependent countries," said Edmund Bartlett, Jamaica’s Tourism Minister.

The insurance fee will be included as part of Jamaica’s online Travel Authorization application, which is required for all arrivals.

"Our mission is to rescue and restore Jamaica tourism to pre-Covid levels, restore confidence in travelers and rebuild their trust in traveling again," Bartlett said.

Bartlett said there have been no new cases of Covid-19 since it reopened for tourism in June.
