Consolidated travel companies having second thoughts?
“The jury’s still out” on whether or not travel companies will continue to have a goal of offering a comprehensive variety or virtually all-inclusive services, says Shane Hammond, executive vice president, sales and client services for TRX Inc.
“The move towards consolidation in the past has been strong, but some of the people we’re talking to today don’t believe in that model anymore,” he said.
He said a possible trend was for companies to favor single-service providers who in some cases can provide the best quality available.
For 20 years, corporations have been operating on the general premise that they can supply everything across the board. But whether that will continue is still a question, Mr Hammond said.
But despite that, he does not envision the global companies breaking up or changing their basic structure.
“I think there’s a lot of satisfied customers that love global programs,” he said. “But sometimes it’s a mixed bag.”
TRX, a provider of transaction processing and date integration services for the global travel industry, recently released its SELEX Workflow Manager v4.0. The newest version is a hosted technology tool offering Web-based, transactional workflow automation for operations and call centers.
The system supports all five major GDS systems: Amadeus, Apollo, Galileo, Sabre and Worldspan, said Mr Hammond.
