Saturday, 01 Jun, 2006 0

Plans have been unveiled for the launch of the 3,780-passenger Costa Concordia, claimed to be Europe’s largest passenger ship.

The 112,000-ton vessel is to be christened on July 7 Civitavecchia, the nearest port to Rome, followed by a five-day cruise and a nine-day maiden voyage departing on July 14.

The Costa Cruises flagship will then run 18 seven-night Mediterranean cruises throughout the summer until November 19.

The Italian line is considering new land-based options for passengers including two-day stays in the Italian capital and the use of a private beach.

Costa Concordia features 1,430 cabins, 55 of will give direct access to a two-deck spa.
