Covid infected guest on Carnival Vista has died
The one passenger who tested positive for Covid-19 aboard the Carnival Vista has died.
During a cruise in early August, 27 Covid infections were identified aboard the ship but only one was a ship guest.
The remainder were crew members and all were vaccinated.
It was the highest number of Covid cases recorded on a cruise ship since cruising restarted in the US and was also the first death.
The 77-year-old woman was taken ashore at Belize and then airlifted to the US, where she died in an Oklahoma hospital.
Carnival Cruise Line was in damage limitation mode, saying it was ‘highly unlikely’ Marilyn Tackett contracted Covid while onboard.
It has since strengthened protocols with the requirement to wear masks in enclosed spaces and requires pre-departure testing.
Starting this week the cruise line requires vaccination of all guests apart from children under 12 and adults with a verified medical exemption.
