Crew and passenger taken to hospital after strange odour on American Airlines flight

Thursday, 4 January 20183 min read

Four people aboard a departing American Airlines flight were taken to hospital suffering the effects of a strange odor in the cabin.

Citing a mechanical issue, American Flight 1719 returned to the gate at Boston’s Logan Airport.

Three cabin crew and a passenger were taken to hospital for evaluation.

The jet was then taken out of service and passengers were transferred to another plane for the scheduled flight to Charlotte.

The mechanical problem is still under investigation, airline spokesman Matt Miller said.

Strange odours on commercial flights are not new but it is rare for an odour to start affecting passengers and crew almost immediately, even before the plane is in the air.
