A young Sri Lankan cricketer who caused a mid-air scare after trying to open a cabin door on a British Airways flight has been fined and given a warning by the country’s cricket board.
Ramith Rambukwella was on a flight with the rest of his team travelling from St Lucia to London Gatwick when he pushed and pulled at the cabin door, mistaking it for the toilet.
The 21-year-old cricketer, the son of the Sri Lankan government spokesman and minister Keheliya Rambukwella, has forfeited half of his tour fee and been issued with a severe warning by Sri Lanka Cricket.
He said he had made the mistake because he was half asleep but eyewitnesses said he seemed drunk and disorientated and was pulling on the door for about two minutes until flight attendants came to calm him down.
