Cruise guests disembark in Mauritius following cholera health scare
Cruise ship passengers on the Norwegian Dawn are set to disembark in Mauritius after a cholera health scare.
Norwegian Cruise Line guests were blocked from coming ashore at Port Louis due to illness among a small number of guests.
Local health officials carried out comprehensive testing due to fears of cholera.
Cholera has killed about 3,000 people across southern African countries since the start of 2023, according to UN data.
“Although only six guests were being monitored for a stomach-related illness, Mauritius required testing in an overabundance of caution,” NCL said.
“They confirmed that no trace of cholera was found, and Norwegian Dawn has been cleared for entry.”
The ship has been delayed for the past two days.
Meanwhile the cruise line has been rearranging flights home for guests and booked over 1,200 hotel rooms for guests for the next delayed cruise departure.
“As always, the health and safety of our guests, crew and the destinations we visit is our top priority,” the cruise line added
