Cruise industry charity bike ride announced
Twelve cyclists from across the cruise industry are taking part in an annual charity bike ride for the Family Holiday Charity (FHC).
The ride, which takes place next month, will see participants pedal either10, 50, 70 or 100 miles across the New Forest.
CLIA has just announced this year’s arrangements, with all funds raised to be donated to the FHC, a non-profit organisation which provides British seaside visits and day trips to struggling families.
Previous fundraising efforts by CLIA and its members have allowed hundreds of parents and children to take a short break from home.
The initial fundraising target of £10,000 will enable around 40 families to enjoy a short break.
The cyclists confirmed so far include Giles Hawke, Cosmos Tours and Avalon Waterways, Bernie Carter, Oceania Cruises, John Fair, CroisiEurope and Dave Hearne and Carla Hines of Royal Caribbean International.
Giles Hawke, CEO at Cosmos Tours and Cruises and Avalon Waterways UK, who is helping organise the ride, said: “We’re really hoping that anyone who’s in a position to help will get behind us and make a donation to the FHC, no matter how small.”
The route around the New Forest, organised by UK Cycling Events, provides formal marshalling support and safety measures; food stops en route; a finisher’s medal and event photographers.
Andy Harmer, CLIA UK & Ireland managing director, said: “We’ve been supporting the Family Holiday Charity for over five years now and together have raised more than £35,000 to support families facing the most difficult circumstances.”
There is a special discount for entry to the ride and a social media hashtag at #TeamCLIACycle22. Further cyclists are welcome.
The bike ride will take place on 17 September. To donate, visit https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/CLIAcycle22
