Cruise passengers take legal action over ‘filthy conditions’
A group of holidaymakers have launched legal action against Thomson claiming their Christmas cruise was ruined by filthy conditions causing vomiting, diarrhoea and fevers.
The nine-strong group, who were on board the Thomson Celebration ship in the Red Sea, are demanding compensation from Tui UK.
They claim the swimming pool became contaminated with human waste, birds landed on outside tables, insects were found in the dining rooms and food and drink unsafe for consumption was served, reports the Daily Mail.
The passengers paid a combined £11,500 for the trip. They say that when they complained, they found some of the 520 staff unhelpful and unwilling to investigate their qualms properly.
The passengers claim their bedrooms smelled unpleasant, bathrooms had discoloured water and were dirty, and staff handling food failed to wear clean clothes and gloves.
They also say food was not served at the correct temperature, fresh food was mixed with previous food, meat was not cooked properly, bottled water was served with the lids removed and jugs contained murky coloured water, it is alleged.
The passengers accuse Thomson Holidays of breach of contract and negligence by not taking adequate steps to limit the spread of illness on board and failing to monitor standards on board properly.
They have instructed solicitor Jatinder Paul of Irwin Mitchell to bring the High Court claim.
