Cruise ship fees to rise at Juneau, Alaska

Cruise lines will soon have to pay more to call at the city owned docks in Juneau, Alaska.

From summer 2026, large cruise ships will pay nearly double the current fee after the Juneau Assembly approved a new fee schedule.

The rate brings it in line with other privately owned cruise facilities in Southeast Alaska.

It applies only to large cruise ships.

The fee increase will generate millions.

Juneau Visitor Industry Director Alix Pierce said the changes make the city’s fees more competitive with the private docks in Juneau and across the region.

“We know that our rates are definitely low compared to the private docks here and other ports in the region are also looking at their fee structure,” she said.

The new rates are based on the ship’s passenger capacity, compared to the current fee based on ship size and tonnage.

Two of the four cruise ship docks in Juneau are municipal owned.

Additional revenue generated will go into the Docks and Harbors enterprise fund.
