Crystal and Holland America roll out 2014 itineraries
Crystal Cruises is planning a White Christmas; Holland America Line is headed for the Panama Canal.
The two cruise lines are rolling out new southbound itineraries for 2014, with Crystal celebrating the New Year in Antarctica and Holland America taking in the centennial celebration at the Panama Canal.
Crystal is touting its Buenos Aires-Valparaiso voyage aboard the Crystal Symphony, sailing through Argentina, Uruguay, Chile, the Falkland Islands, Drake Passage, Cape Horn, and the Chilean Fjords, with multiple excursions to the Antarctic continent. It is one of the few cruise lines permitted to sail to Antarctica, due to new strict environmental regulations.
Guests can fly, hike, and zodiac over and on the icy continent, viewing penguin breeding grounds and the glacial scenery of King George and Ardley Islands, and overnight at the Chilean Eduardo Frei Antarctic Base (INACH).
And of course there’s a gourmet Christmas dinner, a champagne New Year’s gala, religious services, and a visit from Santa.
Holland America Line, meanwhile, is offering 28 full and partial transits of the Panama Canal between fall 2013 and spring 2014, which coincides with the 100th anniversary of the canal that connects the Atlantic to the Pacific.
The ms Amsterdam, ms Statendam, ms Veendam, ms Westerdam, ms Zaandam and ms Zuiderdam will transit the canal from six departure cities, including a new departure from Boston.
Guests can walk along the ramparts of a colonial Spanish castle, explore ancient Mayan ruins and "skywalk" in the Costa Rican rainforest as they cruise from the East Coast to the West on itineraries like San Diego to Fort Lauderdale, or round-trip from Florida.
