Customers will win from alliance tie-up, says JAL boss
Japan Airlines group chief executive Toshiyuki Shinmachi has said the airline is ready to play a “proactive” role in oneworld after revealing its intention to apply for membership of the alliance.
He said the move would create benefits for customers and stressed it wanted to become a full member “as soon as possible.”
“Becoming a member of oneworld, while maintaining our bilateral agreements, would provide our customers with even greater convenience, comfort and value through a more extensive global network,” said Shinmachi.
The integration of e-ticketing, the linkage of frequent flyer mileage programmes and the use of each others services such as lounges, would create seamless travel, he said.
“We would like to start discussions with oneworld so that we can become a full member of the alliance as soon as possible,” he added. “We are ready to join forces and play a proactive role in their global activities as the leading carrier in Asia.”
JAL would become the largest revenue earning carrier in the alliance.
