CVB head admits to misspent expense funds at strip clubs

Friday, 08 Nov, 2005 0

Romps at strip clubs and phony lunches with local politicians led to a guilty plea from the former head of the Long Island Convention and Visitors Bureau.

The bureau also said it would initiate some tough reforms after Michael Hollander misspent more than $350,000 in taxpayer funds.

Mr Hollander pleaded guilty to filing thousands of dollars in fake expenses. He was sentenced to 840 hours of community service and several thousand dollars in restitution.

The misspending was found during an audit.

The non-profit convention bureau was founded in 1978 to promote meetings and tourism events in the Nassau and Suffolk region.
