Dame Esther Rantzen to speak at travel lunch
That’s Life presenter Dame Esther Rantzen DBE has been confirmed as the guest speaker at the Travel Luncheon Club’s Summer Event.
The event will take place on Thursday July 7 at The Dorchester Hotel, London.
Dame Esther is founder of the child protection charity ChildLine, which she set up in 1986, and The Silver Line, designed to combat loneliness among elderly people, which was launched nationally in 2013.
At the lunch, she will be speaking about her work with The Silver Line charity.
"When ChildLine was launched, it uncovered the shocking prevalence of abuse and neglect among our children. The Silver Line Helpline has revealed a truth about our older people which is just as shattering,” she said.
“The stigma attached to admitting loneliness, the reluctance in older people to ask for help because ‘there are so many other people far worse off than I am’ and ‘I don’t want to be a burden’ has meant that we have ignored and neglected the deep unhappiness created by loneliness, which is afflicting so many elderly people."
The lunch will raise money for the charity.
Places cost £85 and include a drinks reception and three course meal. To book email: [email protected]
