Delta adding flights to Rome from Boston

Delta Air Lines is adding another long haul route from its fast growing Boston focus city.

Next summer Delta will launch seasonal flights to Rome from Logan Airport.

Flights begin May 21 through September 8 and will be operated by Airbus A330 jets.

It will become Delta’s ninth transatlantic route from Boston and along with other flights already announced marks a 30% increase in transatlantic capacity out of Boston.

The airline is also adding London Gatwick and Manchester, UK from Boston, and a second daily flight to Paris.

This week the airline became the sole user of Terminal A with ownership of all gates.

Delta is also extending seasonal services between Boston and Edinburgh and Lisbon next year.

Meanwhile, Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte has called on Delta to strengthen its commitment in ailing Alitalia with a larger shareholding.

"A 10% stake seems to me a bit low to have a strong business involvement," Conte said.

Delta is part of a three-way restructuring for the loss-making airline with state-owned rail operator Ferrovie dello Stato and Infrastructure group Atlantia.

Delta has so far pledged only 10% but may increase it if it can secure enough key management positions in the restructured airline.
