Delta Air Lines recently announced it is adding more than a dozen new flights from Miami to help bolster its upcoming partnership with LATAM.

New flights to MIA have been announced from Orlando, Raleigh-Durham, Salt Lake City and Tampa, and all will be served by with Embraer 175 aircraft except for the longer SLC route which will be flown by Boeing 737-800 jets.

The new flights begin from May 2020.

It will give Delta a network of 41 daily nonstop flights between Miami and 10 US cities.

Delta says the new flights are timed to connect with LATAM’s Central and South America services to Miami.

"As our new industry-leading partnership with LATAM develops, this announcement broadens our footprint in South Florida to provide our customers with better connections," said Joe Esposito, Delta’s SVP for network planning.

The LATAM-Delta tie-up is still awaiting government approvals.

Delta developed the cooperation after spending $1.9 billion for a 20% stake in LATAM.

"As we start to build out the joint venture you are going to see this spool up faster than any of our other JVs. There’s really good alignment, focus and growth opportunities for both carriers throughout the Americas," Delta CEO Ed Bastion said.
