Delta Air Lines cautious about its return to Tel Aviv; opens its first-ever flight to Porto

Delta is extending its pause of service from Atlanta to Tel Aviv (TLV), with service suspended through December 18, 2026. Flights were originally due to resume by November 30.

However, service from New York-JFK to Tel Aviv is still planned to resume on September 6. Additionally, the launch of Boston (BOS) to Tel Aviv service continues to be delayed until further notice.

Affected flights will be processed in Delta’s systems on May 23, at which time customers will receive cancellation notifications through the Delta app and via the contact information listed in their reservation.

Customers on affected flights to/from Atlanta do not need to wait for the cancellation notification to adjust their travel. The airline encourages customers to visit the Delta app or delta.com now to review rebooking options and make changes to their trip. Flexible options, including a refund of the unflown portion of the trip, are available for customers with affected travel to/from Atlanta through Dec. 18.

Direct flights between Porto and New York

In another development, the carrier inaugurated on May 21, 2026 its first-ever service linking New York JFK to Porto Francisco Sá Carneiro International Airport in Portugal. The flight is served by a Boeing 767-300ER.

The daily service between Porto and JFK will not only bring Northern Portugal closer to the US East Coast, fostering the development of niche tourism such as wine and gastronomy.

It will also provide the Northern Portugal community with new economic opportunities while improving accessibility to the whole United States through Delta’s extensive domestic and international network operating out of New York.
