Delta ends longtime partnership with theater after Qatar Air gig

The tiff between Delta Air Lines and Qatar Airways seems to have descended further into petty bickering, with Atlanta’s Fox Theater stuck right in the middle.
The theatre held a private event featuring a concert by Jennifer Lopez to mark Qatar Air’s upcoming launch of flights to Atlanta next month.
That spurred Delta to say it was ending its association with the theater.
Delta has sponsored the Fox for more than two decades, but all that amounts for little where nemesis Qatar Air is concerned.
The Atlanta based carrier will not renew its sponsorship with the theater when the current deal expires next year.
"We were very surprised and disappointed when we learned that the Fox Theatre — an organization that we’ve supported for years, an organization that has called us its official airline — we were shocked and surprised when we learned that they were hosting the coming out party for Qatar," said Delta chief legal officer Peter Carter.
"When the CEO of Qatar first told the world that they would be flying to Atlanta, what he told the world was that he was going to start a flight from Doha to Atlanta; to rub salt in the wounds of Delta."
A Fox statement said the private event ‘was in no way a violation of our contractual agreement with Delta.’
"As we are not in tune with the industry politics of our sponsors, we are disheartened to learn that Delta has chosen to penalize the Fox Theatre for our decision to rent the venue to another airline."
