Apple Pay is taking flight with Delta Air Lines’ Fly Delta app, allowing US travelers to book and pay for flights via Apple Pay for the first time.
"Our Fly Delta app has come a long way since it was first introduced in 2010 and we are excited to be the first US based airline to allow our customers to book and pay for their tickets with Apple Pay," said Rhonda Crawford, vice president of e-commerce.
"By providing a way to pay for flights with just the touch of a fingertip, Delta continues to optimize our robust mobile channels and provide an easy-to-use and seamless digital experience for our customers,".
Apple Pay uses Touch ID authorisation and is compatible with newer Apple devices from the iPhone 6 onwards.
A single touch of a fingertip authorizes a one-time unique dynamic security code via the ‘Pay with Apple Pay’ button.
A successful payment generates a one-time unique dynamic security code which is rendered useless to any third party if it were to be intercepted.
Delta follows Gulf carrier Emirates which became the first airline to offer flight bookings through the Apple Pay service.
Rival US airline JetBlue was the first to fly with Apple Pay adoption back in February, but can only currently be used as a payment method when purchasing in-flight services such as food and seat upgrades.
