A surprise stowaway forced a Delta Air Lines’ Atlanta-bound flight to return to Detroit Metro Airport.
After Flight 1943 took off a small bird managed to find its way into the cockpit.
Flight crew spent more than an hour in vain trying to catch the small bird, thought to be a hummingbird.
That is when the pilot decided to turn around and return to Detroit to ‘avoid a potential distraction,’ Delta said in a statement.
According to passenger Brian Buonassissi the pilot announced: "I have an update that the bird is back and it’s going a little nuts in here in the cockpit and we do not feel safe continuing on this flight, so we’re going to go back to Detroit."
After landing without incident the bird was safely removed and then set free, the airline said.
