Delta marks 45 years of UK flights
Delta Air Lines is celebrating 45 years of UK flights.
Delta began flying nonstop from Atlanta to London Gatwick on April 30 1978.
It was the airline’s first international flight using a three-engine Lockheed L-1011, better known as a Tristar.
The airline’s international expansion soon took off.
Delta used the start of its London flights to introduce a three-class experience – First Class, Medallion Service (business class) and Economy Class.
UK flights now typically. feature three or four product experiences including enhanced Delta Premium
“So much has changed since that first flight. London was more than just a first. It paved the way for us as a major international airline,” said flight attendant Kay Carpenter.
She was on that first London flight and still flying with Delta today.
Delta’s UK presence has grown to 40 peak-day flights from London-Heathrow, London Gatwick, Edinburgh and Manchester to major US. hubs in partnership with Virgin Atlantic.
