Delta pilot averts runway collision at Shanghai Airport

A quick thinking Delta Air Lines pilot averted a potentially disastrous runway collision with another aircraft at Shanghai’s Pudong International Airport.

The Delta Airbus A350 was forced to abort take-off after the pilot spotted a Japan Airlines plane enter the runway.

Delta said Flight DL582 had to sharply apply the break ‘due to a possible runway incursion.’

The aircraft returned to the boarding gate and its tires were replaced.

According to one post on Chinese social media site Weibo the aircraft was seconds away from take-off when it was abruptly aborted.

Chinese civil aviation authorities are investigating the incident.

One unnamed official told the media the JAL plane was ordered to wait on the taxiway by air traffic control.
