Delta tweaks boarding policy

Delta Air Lines is revamping its boarding policy adding more boarding groups.

However Delta says a completely new format will encourage ‘fewer customers to line up in the gate area’ making it faster for everyone.

It is expanding the number of groups from six to eight, and takes effect on January 23, 2019.

After specific passengers who need more time to board, Delta One suite customers are first up, followed by customers in Premium Select or First Class, depending on the flight.

Then comes Comfort+ passengers, Gold and Platinum members, followed by the Main Cabin in three phases.

Those that purchase Delta’s cheapest tickets will be last to board.

"This latest enhancement further refines how Delta’s process works and is designed to better link the Delta product they purchased to differentiated experiences throughout their journey," said Tim Mapes, Delta’s chief marketing officer.

To simplify the new system for customers, each section will be color coded on airport screens.

American and United have also recently revamped their boarding procedures.
