Delta Vacations highlights top 10 Caribbean hotspots

Wednesday, 15 Jan, 2014 0

Coinciding with its participation at the Caribbean Travel Marketplace, which wrapped up yesterday in Jamaica, Delta Vacations has revealed its top 10 Caribbean destinations for 2014.

The list highlights the islands with the highest growth on booked room nights between 2009 and 2013.

The company said it has seen a combined increase of around 250% for these destinations over the same period.

Heading the list is the Dominican Republic, followed by Jamaica and Aruba in third place.

"These are all incredible destinations no matter what type of vacation someone wants to plan. The key is that they are all well-served by Delta Air Lines from cities across the US and Canada," said John Caldwell, president of MLT Vacations, a division of Delta Air Lines.

The Caribbean has enjoyed a period of continued growth in the North American market, helped by improved infrastructure such as the San Pedro de Macoris-La Romana highway in Dominican Republic and increases in room capacity throughout the region.

Jamaica welcomed its two millionth stopover visitor in late December 2013 – the first time it has achieved this milestone in a calendar year.

Addressing the media at the Caribbean Travel Marketplace, Jamaica director of tourism John Lynch said the island had added to its room stock for 2014 with new hotels and upgrades from established brands including as Hyatt, Marriott and Melia.

The full line-up of Delta Vacations Top 10 Caribbean islands 2014 is as follows:

1.            Dominican Republic
