Disney Cruise Line to sail from New Orleans in 2020
Disney Cruise Line will set sail from New Orleans for the first time in early 2020.
The line announced a short season of six scheduled cruises on the 2,700-passenger Disney Wonder from February 7 to March 6, 2020.
It will operate four week-long Western Caribbean sailings, a seven-night Bahamas cruise; and a 14-night Panama Canal itinerary.
While it has confirmed just a handful of trips, the port is ‘very confident’ it will lead to more in the future.
"From a tourism perspective, this demonstrates that people recognize the diversity of our brand and the fact it is a growing destination for families," said Brandy Christian, president and CEO of Port of New Orleans.
"It’s very typical to start with a limited number of cruises in a test market, to see if it fits," she said.
New Orleans is the nation’s sixth busiest cruise port, welcoming 1.15 cruisers in 2017.
As part of its just announced 2020 schedule, Disney also said the Wonder will return to Hawaii for two cruises in late April and May 2020.
