Walt Disney World has beefed up security with metal detectors installed at theme park entrances and is halting the sale of toy guns.
The company also said it will no longer allow adults to wear costumes when entering the park.
"We continually review our comprehensive approach to security and are implementing additional security measures, as appropriate," Disney said in a statement.
Guests will be randomly selected to go through metal detector screening and has added more security personnel in recent days.
Disney has used metal detectors in the past and it is unclear whether it will now become a permanent feature.
Universal Orlando is also testing metal detectors and SeaWorld said it is ‘enhancing security measures for the busy holiday season, including increased security presence both inside and outside the parks.’
Last week a man was arrested at Disney’s Magic Kingdom after attempting to bring a gun inside.
