Dollar Golf Day report
The prize for the longest drive took on a whole new meaning at the Dollar Rent-a-car Golf Day last week.
Players found themselves stuck in the worst traffic jams seen on the M25 for many years, turning 15-mile journeys into three and a half hour marathons.
But the delay to the presentations did not dampen spirits.
After a day’s golf at the Kingswood Golf course in Surrey, the winner was declared as Phil Cook of P and P.
With a formidable 39 points, Cook narrowly beat Gerry Boyle on count back and was awarded the Dollar trophy by last year’s winner Giles Harper.
The event, jointly sponsored by Virgin Atlantic, also had a side competition as qualification for the Virgin Golf Tournament in Miami Florida in late September was also decided.
The winners, announced by Dollar’s Tom Knopek and his assistant Cheryl Pemberton at the Nutfield Priory, were John Bond of Jet Set, Andy Dalton of World Wide Cars and Graham McKenzie of TravelMole.
After dinner entertainment was provided by rapper NMJ (Nigel McShine-Jones ) and the Dollar sales team.
