Door-to-door baggage service launched
A businessman has set up a luggage collection and delivery service for airline passengers.
Frequent flyer Gideon Kasfiner says his new Luggage Delivery Company is an affordable alternative to paying to put baggage in the aircraft hold.
Customers can have their luggage picked up from home and delivered to wherever they are staying. Prices start at £29.99 for a small bag delivered to France.
The launch of the service coincides with Ryanair chairman Michael O’Leary’s announcement last week that he intends to "keep increasing" baggage charges and said it was "inevitable" that airlines charge for hand luggage in the future.
A recent survey by TravelSupermarket reveals baggage charges have gone up by between 10% and 47% in the past year.
Thomson Airways, for example, has increased its baggage fees from £15 per person per flight to £22; easyJet has increase its fee from £14.50 to £18, while other airlines charge much more.
The Luggage Delivery Company describes its service as: "A stress-free and cheaper airport experience with no fuss or hidden fees."
Customers are provided with a unique tracking number, enabling them to track the progress of their luggage in real time on the company’s website. SMS and telephone alerts are also available.
