DR reaches turning point in tourism
The Dominican Republic says it has reached a new turning point in tourism.
Tourist arrivals for the first seven months of this year were up 9.4%, but even more significant, the majority of the visitors were from North America.
“This is a key development as it is the first time that North American surpassed Europe in tourist arrivals to the DR,” says a press release.
Four million international visitors are expected this year.
Tourism officials attribute the increase to new hotels and promotional money spent to spur visitors. Airline flights are on the rise.
The country is also investing $30 million to improve the north coast infrastructure including a beach expansion and a new dock with restaurants and bars.
